Hi there and welcome to my blog.
What is this blog all about ?
Well I have been training government officials and private sector people in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam and elsewhere on various trade development and export promotion topics since the 1996. As a result I have met many enthusiastic participants from the countries that I would like to use this blog as a way for all the people that I have met to exchange views and discuss about the current international trade and business situation and how it affects their country, their enterprises and themselves.
The international trade environment has changed alot since I started working. Just look at the situation today...increasing trade liberalisation under the WTO (though it has recently stalled), more regional trade developments, closer bilateral trade relations (e.g look at US-Vietnam BTA), offshoring activities, rise of outsourcing, ICT and the emergence of the international production( and service) networks within the region and within the world.
The world is changing too fast and and Thomas Friedman has explained this phenomena well in his book 'The World is Flat"...a book which that I will recommend everyone to read.
However to survive and even strive in this constant changing environment we need to keep abreast with the latest developments in economics, trade, business and technology. The key is knowledge or at least access to knowledge. And one such way is through interaction with other like minded people.
Another important factor to succeed in today's business is networking. By networking I mean by establishing and maintaining a global network of contacts, associates, friends, partners and so forth. And with current ICT tools like internet, email, skype, messenger etc it isn't that difficult to keep in touch with your network. This blog is just another way for me to reach out with all my friends and participants that I have met not only in the GMS region but in other countries as well and also to act as a forum for everyone to share their views and opinions. Thanks
